Are We Great, Yet?
America now sits 62 days into a new administration and watched the country either become great, or flipped upside down based on your political perspective. Democrats in office feel powerless because the three branches of government are Republican controlled. Americans who are angry are fighting against elected officials at town hall meetings, or protesting in the streets. Almost every day the country makes international headline with a new executive order flying out from the oval office, each one directed towards reshaping Americans’ lives. To fellow Americans, I have a few questions regarding if we are great, yet.

The Blatant Disrespect of a Baseball Legend
Just a fair warning that I'm going to go on a bit of a rant. Recently, I ran into a story online that I wanted to talk about. As a baseball fan, I couldn't let what I'm about to say go. It was about an article mentioning the late, great Jackie Robinson's time in the Army deleted from the Department of Defense's website. In case you're not up to speed about what's behind this, President Trump signed an executive order to purge DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) programs from the U.S. Government. This was one of his campaign promises. That means erasing any mention of Black, Indigenous, and LGBTQ+ figures who came before us. When asked for the reason behind this move, Pentagon press secretary John Ullyot stated it was done to stop what he called "Woke cultural Marxism." The Pentagon claimed that everyone at the Defense Department respected Jackie Robinson, which I didn't buy one bit. If they truly respected him, the article about him serving in the Army wouldn't have been deleted. This was 100% a racially motivated move on their part.

The Biden Administration began a program to make this a reality for many educators and student loan borrowers. Our current administration revoked it and released a new executive order regarding loan forgiveness (see below for the executive order).

Who’s In Charge?
“The door was opened. That’s why I thought I could go certainly into it.” – LAUSD Board Member Karla Griego As Dr. Rocio Rivas, Chairperson of the Committee of the Whole, prepared to move on to the next item on the agenda she was interrupted by LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho. Rocked by the recent scandal of being sued by his predecessor for allegedly misspending PROP-28 funds earmarked for expanding arts programs, Carvalho sought to use the appearance of the District’s auditor to try to repair his image. Most importantly, he wished to challenge the allegation that he had used these funds to pay for programs that existed before voters passed the proposition.
