The Heart Is Stronger Than The Mind

The mind talks loudly,

it builds its case again and again,

it gathers reasons,

it lays them out like facts I should trust.

It tells me to walk away,

tells me what makes sense,

what is safer, what is right,

what will hurt less in the long run.

But the heart does not speak like that,

it does not argue,

it does not explain itself,

it just stays,

steady, stubborn, unshaken.

I have tried to listen to the mind,

I have followed it down clean paths,

made choices that looked right on paper,

choices that others would agree with,

choices that should have brought peace.

But peace did not come,

only a quiet emptiness,

a sense that something real

had been left behind without a fight.

The heart does not forget,

it holds on to things the mind discards,

it keeps names, faces, moments,

it keeps feelings alive

long after logic says they should be gone.

And it hurts,

there is no softness in that truth,

it hurts to carry something

you are told to release,

it hurts to stay when leaving would be easier.

But there is strength in it too,

a different kind,

not loud, not praised,

but deep,

unmoving even when everything else shifts.

The mind can guide,

it can protect,

but the heart endures,

it takes the weight,

it keeps beating through what should have broken it.

And I am learning this slowly,

through every choice that pulls me apart,

through every moment where logic fails

to quiet what I feel.

The heart is stronger than the mind,

not because it wins,

but because it refuses to stop,

even when stopping would make everything easier.
