A Poem

Salty air bites the shore line

and the tide pulls back its sleeves

It leaves the shore to wonder

about the things it used to believe

🌧️

The world has a way of taking

It can kick your spirit into dust

It turns the silver into iron

and the iron into rust

🌧️

You'll stand where the wind feels coldest

with your pockets empty and torn

watching those empty promises

wither before they're ever born

🌧️

The world played rough with your heart

It gloated every time you fell

Until you were left with nothing

A ghost... an empty shell

🌧️

But some things return with a surprise

like that earring you thought you lost...

They carry the marks of a journey

or the bite of winter frost

🌧️

It may not be with a grand entrance

No blasting trumpets made of gold

But a warmth will settle slowly

to relieve that damp and heavy cold

🌧️

The blessings you have sent out

will find a way back to your door

They'll carry dew drops from the mountains

and flecks of sand from every shore

🌧️

They may look a little different now

They're filled with so much light

Made tough by miles of travel

through heavy days and lonely nights

🌧️

You'll recognize them easily

The way they fit into your hand

Though, they have tumbled and been broken

They won't be hard to understand

🌧️

What was kicked is now your treasure

What was lost has stories to tell

They're a hand held out to you

for every time you ever fell

🌧️

You'll feel the peace take hold of you

You'll finally breathe fresh air

Your heart will fill with butterflies

in the answer to your prayer

🌧️

No good you do is ever wasted

even if the years have caused you pain

Because every harvest is always sweeter

when it's gathered after rain

🌧️

Peace will settle like ash on a fireplace

around you while you grieve

A garden will grow from all the wreckage

of a thousand fallen leaves

🌧️

The world may have had its moment

It may have left you feeling dead

But the blessings always find the pathway

Back to the crown of your head
