Indie Horror Films You Have Probably Missed
Apart from the fact that you may have missed them for this very reason, the indie horror films from far and wide have showcased innumerable pleasures for those who not only love the horror genre, but prefer extreme terror over all. Even for the people who love the older films more (we all watch the classics after all), not all the given indies are for everyone, and even more of them simply shouldn't be watched by all eyes.

Underrated Horror Films from the 90s
Though they may be nothing like A Nightmare on Elm Street or Silence of the Lambs, these underrated horror films from the 90s have been overlooked for a variety of reasons and tend to be ignored, even though deserving of far more acclaim than they have actually acquired. Either way, they're still historical pinpoints in a rather interesting decade that had proved to be, itself, a blending of various controversies. Likewise, these films stuck to meshing themes of sci-fi and humor with that of some quality horror, yet still fell by the wayside upon release due to either disinterest from various viewers, or simply poor returned reviews by critics.

A Common Man's View: 'Hush'
Currently trending in Netflix's horror scene is a delightful little flick called Hush. Mike Flanagan's 2016 slasher has come across my path a few times over the past year, and I vehemently avoided it, like I do most shadows lurking in my oft-empty house. I wish I had done a bit more research before turning it away, I always know a Blumhouse film is sure to enthrall me.

My Top Favorite Horror Films Coming Out This Year
The first on my list is going to be Blumhouse’s Truth or Dare that comes out this April. This film really caught my attention with just the trailer alone. It starts off with a group of people playing the truth or dare game. The game is suddenly stopped when a guy tells the truth that he only wants to be around one of the girls to play and get rid of the game. He considers the game a curse and he’s ready to be left alone. The key is to tell the truth and do the dare. If you don’t, you die. There is no escaping this game, and it only ends when all the players are dead. While this won’t be the scariest film of the year, I think the concept is kind of cool. Yes, I’ve seen something similar, but the aesthetic of the “players,” once they’re involved in the game, is something I’m looking forward to as well.

Underrated Horror Films From the 80s. Top Story - March 2018.
The 80s was one of the best decades in the horror genre. You can't even argue it when you think about how many of the best horror franchises in the world ended up being made at this point in history.

The Movie 'It' and Schizoaffective Disorder
I curled up on the couch, with a blanket and a dog, ready for one of my friend’s favorite movies. He loved the movie It, though I had never seen it. He rented the recent remake, certain that I would love it. About twenty minutes into It, I screamed, turned on all the lights in the house, glared at him, and asked, “What the fuck, dude?!” I wasn’t ready for the schizophrenic trip down memory lane that this screwed up movie was taking me on.

Movie Review: 'Strangers Prey at Night'
Kinsey (Bailee Madison) is being sent to boarding school because she’s grown out of control. Her parents, Cindy (Christina Hendricks) and Mike (Martin Henderson), are at their wit's end with their rebellious offspring, and as we join their story, they, along with their son, Luke (Lewis Pullman) are driving Kinsey to her new school. Tensions are high among the family and reach a boiling point when they pull off for the night.

Movie Review: 'The Ritual'
The moment Netflix released The Ritual, a 2017 film directed by David Bruckner, back in February of this year, it quickly became acknowledged as one of the first good horror movies in 2018. Holding a 69 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, it's fair to say the movie has received mixed-to-pleasant reviews. I went into this movie not really knowing what it was about, but feeling that it was going to be tiredly similar to The Blair Witch Project. There is definitely no shortage of horror movies that follow a team of people trekking it through the woods, slowly being picked off one by one, and The Ritual is no exception. With deftly acted characters and an all too familiar narrative, what this movie relies on to make it unique and engrossing is stunning visuals, a gut-wrenching tale of guilt and redemption, and one of the most terrifying movie monsters we've seen in a while.

Why You Need to See 'Veronica'
Before I start, I wanted to warn whoever is reading this that there are spoilers in this post. When I first saw Veronica I was at a loss for words. I heard about the film from a former classmate. I trust my classmate’s opinion and taste of horror films, so I got right on it. Veronica was released August 2017 in Spain. It’s written by Paco Plaza and Fernando Navarro. Paca Plaza also directed the film. If you’re a fan of the horror genre then you’re familiar with Paco Plaza’s work (REC 1, 2, & 3). I’m going to be completely honest and tell you that this is not Plaza’s scariest film ever. However, the way the film makes you feel during and afterward, the way it’s shot, and the delivery of a very familiar plot is what makes this film a gem.

Most Underrated Horror Films from the 2000s. Top Story - March 2018.
Not many people love horror films simply because they're terrifying, and that's totally understandable. I personally love horror movies, because I actually enjoy being terrified by the unrealistic monsters and paranormal events as odd as it sounds. Yes, I'm weird that way, but I'm positive so many people can agree with me. And when it actually comes to horror films, us horror lovers are very passionate about the films. Many of us don't settle on a specific type of movie—we enjoy paranormal, slasher, and even monster horror movies.
