However, after learning about this soap and the history behind it, I had to see this. Beyond the Gates is TV's first predominantly Black soap in well over 30 years, since the short-lived soap, Generations, aired on NBC from 1989-1991. The cast of that series included Richard Roundtree, Vivica A. Fox, and the late, great Kristoff St. John (who later played Eric Winters on The Young and the Restless).
