The Mystery of the Orbs
I am walking down the hall when I see a faint light ahead. Did I leave a light on in my bedroom? I must have. Here I am and there is no light on, so where is the light coming from? As I look around it gets lighter and I still don’t see where the light is coming from. What is going on I say out loud. Behind me, my girlfriend is just now coming into the room and she says, “The lights are above you”. As I look up I can see what she is talking about. Small orb like lights are above us and are lighting up the room, and just like that they are gone again. “Did you see that?” I ask no one in particular.

Ebb and Flow
Gemma was exhausted. It wasn’t a new experience, it had been her default setting for so long now that she almost didn’t remember any alternatives. The disease eating away at her bones and her blood ate her strength before she could use it, and the drugs were fighting her body as much as it was fighting the cells trying to kill her. She almost hadn’t made it to her appointment today, the chills and the shaking and the nausea all so bad she could barely get out of bed, it had only been Tim’s solid presence that had given her the spark of defiance to push out from the heavy covers of their bed and drag her broken body to the car.

The Lake
“There once was an entire town here... beneath the lake…,” my brother stated quietly, gravely. “The houses still stand down there… you can see their roofs if you swim down far enough…” his voice building with the story, “they say that some people refused to leave and they drowned in their homes when the lake was filled…” His flashlight created shadows on his face that made him almost unrecognizable in my child's eyes. The darkness behind him swallowed everything that didn’t quite touch the light.
