Time to Improve the Backyard for the Kids!
Most people who were born in the 90s or before have some kind of memory of playing outside doing activities such as kick ball, jumping rope, or any other kind of fun activities. Now a days, kids don't play outside as much as they did before. They would rather play on their electronic tablets or watch television. As kids grow, getting them outside and off of their tables or in front of the television can be helpful for getting their creative minds working and also improve their physical fitness. Playing outside has been proven to help with kids creativity and imagination. Being outside can also help get them the vitamin D that they need. Getting different kinds of play equipment can help make outside time for more fun for them. You can do different things whether you have a small backyard or a large backyard.

Tips for Working Mothers
Working moms have a lot on their plate. In spite of all the advancements we've made towards equality, women are still expected to be the primary caregivers for their children. That means that moms who don’t want to quit their career because they had kids can often end up feeling like they are doing two full-time jobs, and are then absolutely exhausted. Luckily, there are ways you can organize your life and your surroundings so it works for you, and allows you to have the best of both worlds.

Alzheimer’s...
My mom was diagnosed at 70 with Alzheimer’s Disease. I was a nurse, my mom was a nurse, her father a surgeon... medicine ran in our blood. So did the disease. Mom remembers her Aunt Ruth having Alzheimer’s. Mom was tested and found to have the Alzheimer’s gene that demonstrates an increased probability of the diagnosis. This was after I found her. I found her at the fairgrounds. She and my dad had taken some of their grandchildren to the fair and she had returned to her car to gather her rain coat. My husband and I were arriving later and found her wandering the large lot. I rolled down my window and asked what she was doing.

Reason First: LightSkinKeisha's Daddy Issues
LightSkinKeisha has an excellent attitude. She’s calm and composed and ladylike. She has an air of sophistication while still exhibiting an “around the way” girl appeal. Her mother made her that way. As for her dad, well, he just wasn’t there. And that’s a pity. And it’s far too common within the culture in general, and the genre of hip hop specifically. Fathers guide, lead, provide, and nourish. They are the standard bearers for the family unit. LightSkinKeisha can attest to a relatively large family unit. One of eight children, she hasn’t seen her father since she was four-years-old. Allegedly, he got strung out on an undisclosed substance and never bothered to show up for her on her practices for all-star cheerleading. She did that for thirteen years. In all of that time, her father never bothered to even call his daughter.

My Father My Hell
As a father, I always tried to do right by my kids; I wasn’t always successful. It was probably because there wasn’t anyone in my life growing up that I could learn from. So I pretty much flew by the seat of my pants. All I knew was that I wasn’t going to treat my kids the way I was treated. I think in that regard I was successful. You see, I don’t have one good memory of me with my father. Anytime we were together it turned out to be a disaster. Even a simple trip to the beach was traumatic. I was a fat kid, go figure, and he insisted that I wear the same orange spandex trunks as him. I don’t have to elaborate on that do I? So, here I am at ten years old in orange spandex trunks, and now, it’s time to learn how to swim. Being in the Navy earlier in his life, he was an expert on all things water. In his infinite wisdom, to teach me how to swim, he thought it best just to throw me in deep water, then he told me to swim to him. When I started to sink like a rock, he became angry, snatched me out of the water, then went fishing, leaving me totally embarrassed and looking stupid in those orange spandex trunks.

Pass Me the Moon Please Mummy
Visiting the #moonexhibition at London’s #NaturalHistoryMuseum this June got me to thinking about my parenting. It triggered a memory of being about six years old, lying in bed, unable to sleep, and chatting to my daddy whilst looking out the window at the night sky, and him saying to me, “if I could give you the moon I would.”
