We all see the posts and comments about challenges being unfair, questioning the process, decrying it as unfair, personally motivated, and umptyzillion conspiracy theories about creators as judges.

I’ve never seen one of these laments from someone about a challenge they received recognition in. Let’s open the door for that. Tell me about a time you unfairly won.

The rules:

1. You may not use this as a sideways bumper car to take a hit on another creator. No choosing someone else’s piece and giving your opinions in first person from someone else’s pov—that’s dirty and underhanded.

Mama won’t tolerate that here.

2. You can completely fabricate something.

3. Elections are a prohibited topic. No exceptions.

4. If you’re telling a true story, put it in Critique; if it’s fabricated, put it in Fiction.

No poems.

5. Do the normal stuff: link in comments, link the challenge in your piece.

6. This is not limited to writing contests—if you won a wrestling competition where you cheated, tell us about it! Did you pay someone to take the SAT for you, compete in a battle of the bands your mom judged? These are things we’re interested in. Hell, maybe you won a peace prize for committing war crimes. Who knows?

Prizes: humility, self-awareness, and humor

Open until Denver is oceanfront.

This is somewhat touching on something I have been ranting to a friend about today. Recently I started posting on another site. There's this point system and I earn points and member dollars by reviewing writing (everyone on the site does). You can give up to 6 stars. I have reviewed several pieces explaining my reasoning for my rating, what I thought was good and areas where I thought needed improvement. I am finding out, people on there only want 5 and above and don't care about improving. One writer did not like my 4 star review because others had given him 5 and 6. I read the other reviews and they were not rating the writing. The were rating the subject only. I know that I am not great at writing, but I am posting on these sites to get constructive feedback to become a stronger writer. I want to earn my 6 stars! I don't want a particpation trophy!!

I am very curious about this one. Not sure if I have something worth sharing...but...I am tempted by Denver having the sea nearby. ;)

  • I'll include this in the April Challenge list, but obviously cannot enter, though I have seen a lot of undeserved winners

Lol. Just lol. I mean I could sarcastically rip a new one outta one of my wins.
