Today And Always
Today sits heavy on my chest,
Always presses where scars live,
Love does not ask for permission,
It takes whatever you can give.
I wake with your absence breathing,
Like a prayer that forgot its words,
Faith hums low in the background,
A hymn only the broken heard.
Today reminds me I am human,
Always reminds me I am weak,
I reach for light with shaking hands,
Then settle for the dark I keep.
You promised nothing, I believed it,
Still my soul learned how to hope,
Spiritual lies feel warm at first,
Until you feel the rope.
Always is a dangerous word,
It tempts the heart to stay,
Even when love becomes a wound,
That refuses to close or pray.
Today I carry your silence,
Like a cross I chose alone,
Always walking forward slowly,
With grief pressed into bone.
The present does not forgive easily,
It remembers every fall,
Always watching from the corner,
Waiting for the final call.
Today and always I survive you,
Not healed, but still awake,
Love does not end when it dies,
It lingers for the ache.

I've been writing poetry since the age of 10. With pen in hand, I wander the realms unseen. The pen holds power; ink reveals thoughts. A poet may speak truth or weave a tale. You decide. Let pen and ink capture you ❤️#Marie381UkWrites
