Time Spent

I wish we could spend more time together

But no, even that's a lie.

We could. We can. We have free will.

I wish we chose what we said we wanted.

I wish we fought for the lives we want to live.

If we care about each other,

If we enjoy spending time together,

Then why don't we make it happen more often?

And life getting in the way is just an excuse.

What kind of life are we leading if it does not feel like living?

What are we working for?

What imaginary time do we delude ourselves into thinking we'll have left for the things and people that bring us joy?

We know there are no guarantees.

So this is my plea:

Spend more time with those you love

because when push comes to shove,

The time set aside for the ones you care for

May be time that was never yours.
