The Filthy Fish Shop Cleaner

She came in late with mop in hand

the dirtiest cleaner in all the land

fish guts stuck upon her shoe

the floor looked worse when she was done.

She wiped the counter with an oily rag

then stuffed it quick in her shopping bag

she hummed a tune while chewing gum

and left the sink with scale and scum

She splashed the bucket across the floor

spread more dirt than there was before

the boss just sighed and shook his head

she swept the dust and prawns up with her hands

The cod lay stiff with eyes all glassy

she dropped a sponge and slipped on sassy

she said oh hush you silly thing

as the haddock slid and lost its fin

Customers laughed and held their nose

as she polished glass with her dirty clothes

she sprayed the spray the bottle stuck

and soaked the crabs with one loud gluck

She grinned with pride at her good day’s work

the fish all lay in a soggy, smelly murk

the dirtiest cleaner to ever be seen

made the fish shop grubby with a dirty sheen
