Lyrics: Macbeth Act 1 Scene 2

[Verse 1]

A bloodied sergeant staggers in before great Duncan's throne,

His gaping wounds bear testament to battles bravely known,

The rebel lord Macdonwald rose with fortune on his side,

Till Macbeth drove his sword through him and turned the battle’s tide.

[Chorus]

In the bloodied hills of Scotland, treason flows in waves,

The foes of Duncan’s crown fall upon their ghostly graves,

The traitor's life is forfeit, the battle's lost and won —

Macbeth has claimed the day, and the Thane of Cawdor is done

[Verse 2]

But Norway's king saw weakness there and launched his banners high,

With Cawdor's treachrous aid, he thought that Scotland's cause would die,

Yet Macbeth and brave Banquo rose like thunder in the storm,

And every enemy was driven back with righteous scorn.

[Chorus]

In the bloodied hills of Scotland, treason flows in waves,

The foes of Duncan’s crown fall upon their ghostly graves,

The traitor's life is forfeit, the battle's lost and won —

Macbeth has claimed the day, and the Thane of Cawdor is done

[Verse 3]

Then Duncan spoke with a grateful heart, his voice rang clear and strong,

"Go strip the Thane of Cawdor's name, he has betrayed me far too long,

Greet brave Macbeth with the title and let the hero wear his fame" —

What Cawdor lost through treachery, great Macbeth can now claim.

[Chorus]

In the bloodied hills of Scotland, treason flows in waves,

The foes of Duncan’s crown fall upon their ghostly graves,

The traitor's life is forfeit, the battle's lost and won —

Macbeth has claimed the day, and the Thane of Cawdor is done

[Bridge]

Fate glides silently upon its wings,

As glory fades while ambition sings

The title bestowed upon a great man,

But will he save Scotland's ancient land?

[Final Chorus]

In the bloodied hills of Scotland, treason flows in waves,

The foes of Duncan’s crown fall upon their ghostly graves,

The traitor's life is forfeit, the battle's lost and won —

Macbeth has claimed the day, yet is the story done

Macbeth has stained his blade, But has he truly won

Has Macbeth truly won?
