PICTURES

~ She'd do it all again ~

She looked at the faded pictures

In the album on her knee.

Silent tears fell from her eyes

And blurred all she could see.

Those pictures brought back memories

Of a time so long ago,

When she’d first gotten married,

And she had loved him so!

Their son was born within the year;

Her heart just burst with pride.

But her husband wouldn’t love him –

No matter how she tried.

He said that being a father

Would just get in his way.

He felt like he was being trapped,

And therefore, couldn’t stay.

Then one day without a word,

He walked beyond the door,

And while she stood there crying,

Their child played on the floor.

It’s been twenty-years or more now

Since she been left alone.

She raised her son the best she could –

With love and on her own.

Sometimes you’ll find her crying

With tears of pride and joy

As she looks at the man before her

Who’d once been her little boy.

The pictures bring back memories

Of a life once filled with pain;

But looking at her handsome son –

She’d do it all again!
