Lessons in the In-Between

Verse 1

I showed the serpent how to taste the hand

Taught the crow how to rise from the broken land

Now the venom wakes

The black wings climb

Every lesson I gave walks back through time

Chorus

Oh you teach them sharp

You teach them sly

Don’t look away when they answer in kind

You shape their teeth

You strike their fuse

In the in-between, it’s your turn to lose

Verse 2

I told the wind how to carry a scream

Taught the fire how to chase what it will never keep

Now the storms break wide

The flames lean in

And I stand here watching what might have been

Chorus

Oh you teach them sharp

You teach them sly

Don’t look away when they answer in kind

You shape their teeth

You strike their fuse

In the in-between, it’s your turn to lose

Bridge

A mirror

A shadow

A whisper

A laugh

What you send out will come rushing back

The creatures

The voices

The unseen gleam

Lessons learned in the in-between

Chorus

Oh you teach them sharp

You teach them sly

Don’t look away when they answer in kind

You shape their teeth

You strike their fuse

In the in-between, it’s your turn to lose
