My social feed is lentils
-so many lentils-
will I just see them until
there's better financials?
Not against lentils perse
but that's a lot every day
so much fiber, I'd say
to process one way
all stodgy and sludge-gray.
Lentils will forever keep
stored dried and buried deep
economical? well: cheap
sub for mince? that's a leap
of faith, but I should buy a heap
as meat's price is getting steep.
But- Lentils? they taste of damp,
of mud and scouting camp
rations, letters written by arc lamp
begging for food then licking a stamp
down to the office we would tramp
to mail the pleas to Gram and Gramps.
Lentil and kale, like groats and oats
-things I rather feed the goats-
are good for you, yes antidotes
for hunger, just the thing to fill our throats
protein! vitamins! they get our votes
Lentils? I wish you tasted like chocolate.

Nice, but I also wish they tasted like something else.
There's something I need to eat more of, but unlike your poem, real lentils aren't as palatable.
Lentils is one of my favorite foods because I was introduced to them by my Indian vegetarian friends. There's like 3K different types of lentils in India and you can never get tired of the variations in dishes you can make with them. Also, they can be made tasting like chocolate. I've made a couple of deserts with red lentils that you'd never tell from a chocolate pudding.
I really enjoyed this poem and it's clever rhyme. I liked how your lines increased in length toward the end. It felt as though your frustration was building to the point of... Needing chocolate?
Great! Fun! I need more fiber and didn't even think of lentils! Gave me a chuckle first thing in the morning!! Thank you, Judey!❤️
