Fireflies

A summer Memory

As the summer’s sun slips softly away,

The warm, sweet air gives rest to day.

The twilighted heavens sing a softer song,

The earth is silent, welcoming rest along.

It is only then when, A bright little light,

Went flying by me, In the heat of the night.

A welcoming glow of a firefly sings,

A repeated wave, a chorus of wings.

I remember the fun, the light that we caught,

I remember the laughter; The joy that we sought.

The nets that we held on to each summer day,

The popsicles we ate carried sorrows away.

So welcome back fireflies, please stay close to our homes,

Return each year to us, even after were grown.

I will always keep you close to me, even when the days gone,

After our heads hit the pillows, our innocence drawn.
