Cut Flowers

a poem

he picked her flowers

and laid them bare

once sweet, now sour

if one compared

ravaged the field

staining the soil

completely peeled

her heart and soul

she salvaged

what he’d left behind

and managed

somehow to be kind

the lessons learned

that kept her blind

we’re now unfurled

freeing her binds

out of the shadows

as he passed by

in cloak, her dagger

made him die

deep down a victim

victimless crime

payment for sins

eye for an eye

she now tends the soil

a debt to pay

her penance for

her deeds that day

her flowers again

adorn the field

something that man

could never yield

for she’s the keeper

not just a flower

and though she weeps

she wields a power

strengthening stem

growing empowered

replenished within

radiating without
