There are a few things Mrs. Wattles loves more than a good story, especially one filled with kindness, animals, and a touch of magic. So when she heard that a local book club in her new Boston‑area community was reading Lola Loves Animals by Impala, she knew she had to join. What she didn’t expect was just how heartwarming, welcoming, and joy‑filled her very first meeting would be.

Today, we’re sharing the story of that special afternoon, the moment Mrs. Wattles stepped into a room full of strangers and walked out with a circle of new friends.

A Cozy Afternoon of Books and Warm Hellos

The book club met in a sunny corner of the local library, where soft chairs, warm lamps, and a table full of snacks created the perfect cozy atmosphere. Mrs. Wattles arrived with her tiny copy of Lola Loves Animals tucked under her arm, her little knitted paws trembling with excitement. She had never been to an American book club before, and she wasn’t quite sure what to expect.

But the moment she walked in, she was greeted with smiles, waves, and cheerful hellos. Someone even said, “Oh! You must be Mrs. Wattles! We’ve heard you’re new here!” That made her little heart flutter. She found a comfy seat, smoothed her fur, and prepared for an afternoon of stories and conversation.

Falling in Love with “Lola Loves Animals”

The group dove right into discussing Lola Loves Animals, a picture book filled with gentle illustrations and a message that resonated deeply with Mrs. Wattles. Lola’s love for every creature, big, small, furry, feathered, or scaly, reminded her of home in Australia, where she grew up surrounded by wildlife and eucalyptus‑scented breezes.

As the group shared their favorite moments, Mrs. Wattles listened intently. She loved hearing how Lola’s kindness inspired others, how her curiosity sparked conversations, and how her gentle spirit made readers of all ages smile. When it was her turn to speak, Mrs. Wattles shyly admitted that Lola reminded her a little of herself, small, curious, and always ready to make a new friend.

Her comment earned a chorus of “awws,” and one reader even said, “You do have Lola’s heart.” Mrs. Wattles blushed beneath her soft gray fur.

Meeting New Friends

One of the most magical parts of the afternoon was the people Mrs. Wattles met. There was a teacher who loved reading aloud, a grandmother who collected picture books, a teenager who adored drawing animals, and a librarian who knew every cozy nook in the building. Each person brought their own stories, their own laughter, and their own warmth to the circle.

Mrs. Wattles felt herself relaxing, leaning in, and joining the conversation more and more. She shared how she used to read picture books under eucalyptus trees in Australia, how she traveled across the world with Baby Blossom, and how excited she was to explore her new home. By the end of the meeting, she had exchanged smiles, stories, and even a few hugs.

For a knitted koala far from home, it felt like the beginning of something truly special.

A New Chapter Begins

As the meeting wrapped up, the group invited Mrs. Wattles to join them again next month. She squeaked with delight and promised she wouldn’t miss it for the world. She left the library with her book tucked close, her heart full, and her mind buzzing with excitement.

Her first book club meeting wasn’t just about reading a story; it was about finding community, sharing joy, and discovering that even in a brand‑new place, there are always people ready to welcome you in.

Mrs. Wattles can’t wait for the next chapter of her book club adventures. And knowing her, she’ll have plenty of cozy stories to share along the way.
