FC26 Birthday Team 1: The Essential Player Review and Meta Analysis
The Attackers: From Wing Wizards to Clinical Finishers

The Birthday Team 1 event in FC 26 has arrived, and it is arguably the best content drop we have seen all year. With a massive selection of high-tier cards, deciding where to spend your hard-earned coins or fodder can be overwhelming. This guide breaks down the top performers, the hidden gems, and the "trap" cards you might want to avoid.
The SBC Corner: Bernardo Silva vs. De Jong
The latest Bernardo Silva SBC is an absolute must-complete for almost every player. While he performs admirably as a CAM, his true potential is unlocked as an attacking CM in a three-midfield system. When compared to Messi, Messi still holds the edge at CAM due to his unique body type and superior finishing, but Bernardo’s mobility and link-up play make him a standout in a deeper role.
On the flip side, the Frenkie de Jong SBC is more controversial. Despite his high-profile name and decent base stats, he lacks several critical meta-traits. He is missing a finishing playstyle, the "Interceptive" hook for defending, and the "Relentless" battery trait. While he is certainly a usable card, the absence of these key playstyles in a high-end midfielder is hard to overlook. Depending on your budget, you might want to look elsewhere.
The Attackers: From Wing Wizards to Clinical Finishers
In the striker department, Damaris Egurrola (Domnai) has emerged as one of the best female strikers in the game, trailing only behind the top-tier Pina evolutions. She is the standout ST of this batch and can easily hold her own against the most expensive cards in the game.
The left-wing (LW) position is currently the most competitive area in the game. Jeremy Doku is widely considered the most well-rounded option. Although his "Composure" and "Reactions" stats are slightly lower than ideal, his overall feel in-game is fantastic. Saint-Maximin is a close second, though his low "Volley" stat can be a nuisance during high-pressure power-pass situations. Luis Diaz is technically perfect on paper, but his bulkier body type makes him harder to control for the average player. If you want the absolute best, Cristiano Ronaldo remains the king of the LW, but at over 4 million coins, he is a luxury most can't afford.
On the right wing, Lamine Yamal is the clear gold standard. Even without a custom body type, his animations and responsiveness are unique. For those on a budget, Athenea (often called the "Female Faker") is a solid high-value choice. She isn't "elite," but she is very effective. Use a Hunter chemistry style to maximize her pace and finishing rather than trying to force a "Lengthy" running style.
Midfield Dynamics and Hidden Gems
If you are looking for a bargain at CAM, Hader is an incredible "discard price" card that plays way above his 10,000-coin price tag. Another hidden gem is Ivan Perisic. Despite his 186cm height, an Engine chemistry style makes him surprisingly fluid and a perfect "all-rounder" for any squad.
Kobbie Mainoo is a fantastic high-value CDM. He lacks top-end speed and defensive stats, but for around 100,000 FC coins, he is a reliable anchor for players who aren't chasing the absolute top-tier meta. Fridolina Rolfo remains a versatile powerhouse. While she can play LB, she is most effective as a CM where her physicality and playmaking shine.
A word of caution: Federico Valverde has been underwhelming. Despite his high price, his body type feels clunky in the midfield regardless of chemistry styles. Unless you pack him untradeable, it is hard to recommend spending over a million coins on him. Similarly, Mikel Merino’s 189cm frame makes him feel too heavy on the ball for the current fast-paced meta.
Defensive Anchors: The Rise of "O-God"
For the center-back positions, Dante is the strongest of the new batch, followed closely by Pacho and Laporte. However, the real star of the defense is Aouchiche (often dubbed "O-God"). When combined with the CB evolution, you can secure the best Left Back (LB) in the game for under 50,000 FC coins. He is defensively dominant and currently sits in a tier of his own above Nuno Mendes. On the right side, Marcos Llorente remains the ultimate "Controlled" fullback, providing consistent performance as always.
