As professor emeritus at New Sweden University, Dr. Covey Strong relished the late August days when students returned to class. The dying of the light as autumn approached gave him a renewed sense of minds taking flight. It was a Friday. He wore a gray suit jacket with blood red tie and tan trousers that made him look professorial. He met up with a tenured professor in his early fifties named Dr. Planck Orrington. His short Afro showed flecks of gray. He wore black trousers and a black suit jacket with a robin’s egg blue dress shirt. When they sat together in Orrington’s office, it seemed like two old miners who had escaped from the shaft without black lung.
